Aimee Rose Gardner Labor and Delivery.

At 1:00 am on January 8th I woke up with a cramp in my right side, round ligament pain is what the doctor called it, not an uncommon thing during my pregnancy. I got out of bed to try drinking some water, and relaxing. Over the next hour and a half the pain began to spread and turn into contractions. I waited for another little while and did everything I thought I could to get them to stop but as things began to progress I decided it was time to wake up Daddy and head to the hospital. We called Ruth Baird, the bishop's wife, she came right away and we headed down south the Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach. When we got there I was dilated to a 4. We had to wait a while before they could get us into a room and we worked through the contractions.

When we got into the room, with it's oceanside few, we had the best nurses named Melissa and Amanda. They took such good care of us. The Anesthesiologist was very chatty and talked with dad about a lot of things. Very strange for an Anesthesiologist, really. He seemed to have my doses a little off and it took a while to get it right I was pretty numb and couldn't move. Things got better when he turned things down.  I wasn't progressing very fast so at 11 am they broke my water. Then I was able to get some sleep. They checked me again at 1 pm and I was only at a 7 so they started me on pitocin. An hour later I started feeling like I was ready to push. Then we had to wait for the Dr Marina Maslovaric, MD, who delivered you because my OB Dr Howe had the day off. You were born at 3:09 pm January 8, 2014. at 8 lb 2.7 oz. 19.5 in. 18 days early. The second I saw your beautiful face I was full of of overwhelming peace and love.  The nurses put you right up on my chest and I held you in my arms letting the love wash over me. You soon started nursing and did so well. They cleaned you off weighed you and once you were nice and warm you fell asleep. Dad and I got a great meal and they took all of us over to the recovery room

Dad stayed for the next few hours while we got things situated and the anesthesia wore off. The rest of my stay at Hoag was awesome. The nurses were great and so was the food. I felt so well taken care of by all the staff. Your Aunt Rachel and Uncle Jordan flew in the next morning and got to the hospital around 2 pm very soon came in after them was Dad, Lillie and Sam. Everyone had a chance to hold you; and everyone loved you. Lillie couldn't get enough and wanted many turns to hold you. Sam's reaction was he ran over to me and asked, "I can sit on your lap now?" So cute. Dad and I spent the next 6 hours going over names. We hadn't quite reached a decision because you came a little sooner than we planned. Then during our yummy celebration dinner of filet mignon we finally came to a choice.  Aimee is French for Beloved and when your daddy first saw you he thought of Rose. Mom keeps just calling you Aimee and dad keeps calling you Aimee Rose. You passed all your screenings, 8 oz leaving and we were both doing awesome so we were discharged in the morning on Friday.

Over the next week Aunt Rachel took amazing care of us and the house. Uncle Jordan did a great job keeping your older brother and sister occupied with the Wii. Many people from church brought over meals and helped as much as they could. Your older siblings were champs at nursing and you were no exception. I, on the other hand, had a few issues and I have to remember to use a breast shield next time around. We took you in for a follow up appointment that Monday and you had already gained back your birth weight. We missed Rachel and Jordan the minute they left on Thursday the 16th, but we were so well taken care of we were ready for this.

Your older sister is more than happy to hold you and do anything for you. Your brother loves to sing songs to you at the top of his lungs and has already made you a pinky promise he will love you forever. Thank you for making us a family of 5 we ALL love you!!!

Here's a picture from the window of the delivery room. Beautiful blue skies and sunshine.

First day of preschool

First Day of preschool. Sam is starting a preschool this year, twice a week. He wanted to go to school like his sister so much and he was so excited to be "big" like her. It was nice to go to a Dr appointment without the kids and without finding a sitter. I am looking as forward to this had Sam.

It's a Girl

21 Week ultrasound. It's a girl!!!!
Before I had kids I thought it was a little strange that some mothers have a sense of what their baby's gender are before they find out. I happen to be one of those people. So happy to have another princess.
