We shouldn't be up right now...

Since Lillie got sick last week, it completely threw off her schedule that she was starting to get used to. That being: to bed at a decent hour and sleeping through the whole night, waking up once or not at all. Now we have the joy of her not wanting to go to sleep until much later than normal and waking up way too much and not going back to sleep in the middle of the night. We are going on about 5 days of it now. This is a new adventure since this has also been a week of already having to get up earlier than normal for classes and other activities. I am actually having a difficult time not wanting to scream my head off. We've already tried to get her to sleep three times and she won't do it. Now we have resorted to taking her out of the crib and holding her in our lap as we half doze and half watch TV. Anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with this? I think I'm going crazy...

Man, that stinks. Especially is she was doing so well at first.

"Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" is the book I've used since Michael. Worth every penny, and almost every young mom I know has asked to borrow it. It uses a bit of "cry it out" to learn good habits. And it's not as hard as you'd think...

let me know if you'd like more details.

We have another book that we've looked through. We've tried alot of it. We have tried to let her cry it out but she stands up, holds on to the crib and screams until she throws up. If we go back in before she throws up, she is so histerical that she won't calm down. Tell us some of those details...We're ready to try anything.

We've found that "sleep routines" like brushing teeth, saying prayers, putting on jammies, and then taking her by her bed and explaining that it's time to go to bed has worked wonders for us lately. It's hard when the baby is sick though because they really do just need cuddling and assurance that everything is going to be ok. Is she better from being sick yet?

Samantha was sick a few weeks ago and it took a little while for her to get back on her schedule, but she did after a week or so.

Not one of my kids slept through the night before they were 2. We tried everything, read a million books, and took everyones advice. Nothing worked. (our kids were like Lillie getting so hysterical that they threw up or never calmed themselves down).

Honestly by the third horrible sleeper we just came to the conclusion that this is one of those hard things about being a parent. Don't worry though, by the time they are 6 they sleep awesome, and that will come sooner then you think!
