For us, Sunday morning has become extra long. It seems like it is still morning before we go to church, no matter what time church is. And for us, church starts at 3:00pm. So, our Sunday morning is extended. Last weekend, we decided to go to the park since it was in the upper 60's. There were a ton of other families, so we had a great time. Lillie loves the slides and the stairs, and seems to enjoy the swings. She was interested by the rocking horse, but not for very long. Here we are at the park.
The day before we got our new car, we spent an hour or two cleaning out our old car to make it look somewhat decent. Lillie joined us and sat in the driver's seat honking the horn occasionally, which scared us every time. She was excited to grab the wheel and spin it around because she can never do it when we are normally in the car. I guess is kinda paid off to clean out our car because we got quite a big more money for trading it in than we expected. Yay!
After we got rid of our falling-apart old car, we went for a drive in our new car. We didn't really have a destination, but the roads took us to some fun places. For many of you that didn't know, we actually are literally down the street from the Pentagon and ended up at the September 11 Pentagon Memorial on our drive. Here are some pictures, if you have never seen it on TV or online. It's a little hard to see because we forgot our camera and had to use our cell phones to take these pictures. It may be hard to see, but there are 184 memorial units, which are cantilevered benches made of stainless steel and smooth granite, lighted pools of flowing water and name inscriptions for each person killed in the terrorist attack. They are put in order from year of birth, with 1930 being the oldest and 1998 being the youngest. If the person was on Flight 77 that crashed, then their bench is facing in one direction, and those at the pentagon who died have benches facing the opposite direction. It is a great tribute to the people who passed away, although it's still sad that such an event could occur.
Another random drive in our new car took us to downtown DC. We tried to stop and see some museums and stuff, but they were closing when we got there. So we decided to make a stop at my school, which is down the street from the Lincoln memorial and white house. I got to show Anna and Lillie around where I spend most of my days. Because of the security at the entrance, they can't ever just come walking in, so this is the first time they have come in and seen everything since we've been here. Since we are on Spring Break, there was nobody around and we could let Lillie run wild. She found the lockers interesting, which was funny because she had a backpack and everything, which made for an even better picture. She also had a blast running around and climbing on chairs in my large lecture hall.
She was interested by some of the models of hearts, heads, bones, and other body parts that were on display near the cadaver lab. We didn't go in to see the cadaver lab though because that's off limits. Too bad. I don't think we wanted to smell it anyways. So, the rest of this week will also be filled with random adventures in our new car. Stay tuned.
