Date Night at the Gardners

So date night around here mostly ends up with putting the kids to bed and watching a movie. With the rate of babysitting around here being around $12 an hour to have some one sit on your coach while your kids sleep and you go out just to spend more we don't really go out very much around here on a student budget. But we don't mind as long as we are together. What do you do for date night to save money? We could use some tips, actually.

We used to do that too when our kids were little. Sometimes we would get a nice take out meal and eat it after the kids were in bed.

My friend has been toying with the idea of a babysitting swap where 4 families trade babysitting. One Saturday a month you get all the kids and then the other 3 weeks you have no kids. I think that sounds like a great idea for people with small kids.

Babysitting is only $5 an hour here, so we spring for it at least once a month. $12 would be way too much!

That sounds alot like our date nights. And Sarah, we do the same thing, order a nice take out meal and eat it after bedtime. Other than that most all of our "dates" are family dates. If you come up with some good ideas post them for us all to use.

Find another couple that lives near you and switch off every other week for babysitting. (they don't have to be from the ward) Not only do you have a babysitter twice a month, but you also make better friends.
If we stay at home, it depends on what mood we are in. If we are exhausted, we make milkshakes, cookies or some other unhealthy food and watch a movie or just talk about fun things. If we are in the fun mood, we sit out on the front lawn and play a game (we budget in a new game every 6 months) or the house (if it is cold outside).

oh, and sometimes it is fun to have a picnic in the yard or even the living room (if your babies are asleep of course).
